Placing Your Order Online

Whether you're buying something for yourself or a gift for someone else, ordering is quick and easy.

To Place an Order Online

Add at least one item to your shopping bag and then go to checkout (or click the Checkout button in the top right corner of the website).

During checkout, you can select shipping options and gift options, enter payment information, and add billing and shipping addresses.

You can also review your order before it's final, and make changes to the color, size, or quantity of an item.

What happens next?

After you place an order, an order confirmation immediately appears in the same window. The confirmation includes an order number. It's a good idea to write the order number down before closing your browser.

Within 24 hours, you receive an order confirmation email, which shows the same order number and provides a link to your order status page on the website. You can check the status of your order anytime by clicking the “Orders and Returns” link in the top right corner of the website.

When your purchase has been shipped from the warehouse, you receive a second email with tracking details. For more information on order tracking, see Get the Status of Your Order.

To Place an Order by Telephone

To order by telephone, contact us. Be sure to have all the details of your desired purchases handy, as well as your method of payment.

To Place an Order with Instagram and Facebook

Instagram and Facebook shops provide the ability to shop for products directly on Instagram and Facebook. It allows you to search for products, select your preferences (i.e., size and color), and add to your cart, all within the Instagram and Facebook apps and websites.

Because Instagram and Facebook use Facebook Pay to process payments, Gap Inc. does not receive or store any payment information on orders made using Instagram or Facebook. Because of this, there are a few components of the shopping experience that are different.

Returns

Returns and exchanges cannot be made in store. Learn more about returning by mail.

Cardmembers

Gap Inc. Mastercard® Cardmembers will earn 1 point for every $1 spent when using Gap Inc. Mastercard® Credit Cards through Instagram Shopping and Facebook Pay. Gap Inc. World Mastercard® Cardmembers will earn 2 points for every $1 spent using their Gap Inc. World Mastercard® Credit Card through Instagram Shopping and Facebook Pay.

  • The only Gap Inc. Credit Cards that can be used with Instagram Shopping and Facebook Pay are Mastercard® and World Mastercard® Credit Cards.

Rewards Program Members

Rewards Program Members (Gap Good Rewards, Navyist Rewards, Banana Republic Rewards, Athleta Rewards) will not earn points while using Instagram Shopping and Facebook Pay. For additional information, see Loyalty program details.

Instagram Shopping and Facebook Pay cannot be used:

  • In combination with other online purchase payment options.
  • On brand websites, in stores or on orders placed over the phone.
  • With certain Gap Inc. Credit Cards or Gift Cards to make an online purchase.

    • Only Gap Inc. Mastercard® Cardmembers and World Mastercard® Cardmembers can earn points on purchases made in the Instagram and Facebook apps.
    • Gap Inc. Credit Card Rewards and Cardmember-only promotions cannot be applied to an online purchase made using Instagram Shopping and Facebook Pay. Other promotions can be applied.
  • For orders that include In-Store or Curbside Pickup.

Promo Restrictions

Before using any promotion, be sure to check its terms and conditions for specific guidelines, exclusions, and restrictions. Some promotions are good only for certain items or have other limits on use, while other promotions require that any remaining balance be paid using a Gap Inc. Credit Card. Most of our promotions cannot be combined with other offers or discounts.

About Back Orders and Bulk Orders

Back orders: Sometimes items are not available at the time you want to purchase them. If you decide to place an order, these items are placed on “back order,” which means your credit card is authorized for the purchase, but it's not charged until the items become available and are shipped to you.

At the time you order, we provide you with an approximate ship date for your back-ordered items. Please note these dates are subject to change. If they do, we send you an email notification.

All back-ordered items ship via standard delivery.

Bulk orders: Our merchandise is not authorized for re-sale. Online purchases are limited to 25 items per style, per customer. If you have bulk ordering needs, please contact us. We reserve the right to limit, cancel, or prohibit orders.


About Taxes and Tax-Exempt Purchasing

Order totals shown in the order window during checkout reflect estimated tax. The actual charge to your credit card includes all applicable taxes calculated at the time your order is shipped. Those tax amounts appear on your invoice.

Our tax policy: The taxes we charge on merchandise are based on state and local tax laws and tax rates. The tax for an order depends on the delivery address and the location from which the order is shipped. If an order is made up of items shipped from multiple warehouses to a single delivery address, the tax rate applied to the order may vary based on the warehouse locations.

Where required, tax is also applied to the shipping and handling charges.

If you return an item for a refund, that refund includes the taxes you paid for the item. There is no refund for taxes paid on shipping and handling, because shipping and handling charges are nonrefundable as soon as an item has been shipped.

To ensure compliance with tax laws, we must receive completed forms and verify some information before a purchase can be placed without tax.

Price Policy

The strikethrough or listed price represents a price at which we previously offered the product, or a comparable product, in our stores or online, recently or in a past season or year, or the value of a similar item in the market. It may not represent the price in effect in our stores or online or elsewhere in the market on any particular day or in every location.
